Article
This appeared in the Aldingbourne Magazine:
"It was a magnificent concert enjoyed equally by the music makers and we
who came to listen. The concert was a triple celebration to mark the
reunion of the folk who had made music together at the Eversheds' home when
they were young, to mark Susan Evershed's 80th birthday, and the present
and future success of the Aldingbourne Trust. It was a success on all
counts.
Chichester Cathedral was full; many of you will have been there and will
have your own memories of the evening. I will long remember Steven
Isserlis's performance of the Haydn cello concerto and the dramatic silence
at the conclusion of the specially commissioned setting by Stephen Montague
of poems by Edward Thomas.
All in all the result of over two years planning, it seemed to pass so
smoothly on the night but the hush at the very end, and the feeling of
release of pent-up tension proved just how much had been invested by
everyone in the success of the project.
And the Aldingbourne Trust benefited to the tune of £13,500 - an amazing
sum! We are all extremely grateful to the Evershed family and to everyone
who gave their time, talents and direct donations and those who came to the
concert to make all this possible. The funds will be put towards the
replacement for the Top Building at the Country Centre and specifically for
the recreation room and its equipment."
