Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy looks at the whole person and aims to help resolve deep-seated emotional problems. It considers present difficulties mainly in the light of past events, such as childhood experiences. It acknowledges the importance of unconscious processes, fantasies and dreams. It is based on psychoanalysis with a flexible approach, adapted to the needs of today's world.

Psychotherapy is an intensive process that requires sessions at least twice a week. Although it is long term, it always aims to bring changes so that there can be an end in sight.

Who can benefit?

  • people who want to resolve a problem to do with their family or past
  • someone who is on medication and wants to explore other alternatives
  • people suffering from phobias or eating disorders
  • those in acute emotional distress
  • anyone who faces emotional or psychological difficulties and is seeking change

What it is not
Psychotherapy should not be confused with psychiatry, which is a branch of medicine treating mental illness, usually with drugs.

Equally, psychotherapy differs from psychology, which uses psychometric tests and evaluations to help people understand their difficulties.
