About us

Second Power has been providing on-site computer training in Central/West London since 1999. Recently we have focused increasingly on databases in Access and websites with database engines. We now offer a special combination of database training and consultancy.

Why databases?

Most people have now mastered basic computer skills and are familiar with most of the components of Microsoft Office, such as Word, Powerpoint and Excel spreadsheets. But it is a big leap from understanding spreadsheets to understanding relational databases and we can help our clients make that leap.

What we offer

Although there are many Access courses, including online tutorials such as Microsoft's sample 'Northwind Database', it is not easy to apply them to one's own requirements. That is why we always take our clients' own data as our starting point.

Who we are

Julia Swann MBCS is the proprietor of Second Power. She studied computing in the early 1970s, and has been training users for many years.

Before setting up Second Power, she spent more than 10 years as IT Manager at a property research consultancy in Covent Garden, where she managed the firm’s IT function, supporting and training 30-40 users to a high level.

She has had more than 20 years’ experience in the IT field; she is a qualified teacher, and has done research into the adoption of IT, and has developed a variety of programs and applications.

Julia works with the website consultant Susannah Ross and other specialists.
