Counselling

Counselling is particularly useful where a question or problem has been identified, for example in resolving work-related issues and conflicts, or in terms of career or educational choices.

This form of work is usually successful with younger people, especially when there are difficulties or challenges with education or work, or the risk of being excluded.

I have worked with women of all ages and backgrounds returning to work or education. In this context counselling can help to identify new directions and initiatives to make the necessary changes.

Counselling provides the space and support to clarify goals and values, challenge assumptions, and support changes - however small - encouraging a greater sense of personal responsibility and capability. It is usually for a shorter period of time than psychotherapy.

Counselling also helps someone through:

  • loss or bereavement through death, separation or divorce
  • relationship changes and problems
  • family conflicts
  • exclusion, bullying, unemployment
  • personal and career development
  • anxieties about the menopause
