About me

Rosalind Mayo

Academic
My academic background is in Theology and Philosophy from Kings College London and Heythrop College, London.

Training
I qualified as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the Philadelphia Association, in London. I did a previous training in counselling during the 1970s. As part of my psychotherapy training I worked for four years in an NHS psychotherapy department.

Working experience
I worked as a teacher and trainer for several years, and in senior management. I also worked as a consultant and trainer in personal development.

I have provided individual and group work for young persons and adults, where long-term unemployment or absence from education has led to isolation and 'mental health problems'. I have worked with NACRO, YOPS and Restart.

Teaching and practice
Since 1999, I have been mainly based in London, working in private practice as a psychotherapist, and as Manager for the Philadephia Association's community households.

I teach on the Philadelphia Association's Training and Introductory course.

My professional memberships

  • Member of the Philadelphia Association
  • Associate of King's College London
  • Member of the College of Psychoanalysts, UK, and the College of Psychoanalysis.
  • Member of the Institute for Medieval Studies and Spirituality, Florence

Publications
With Paul Gordon, I am the co-editor of the second Philadelphia Association book, Between Psychotherapy and Philosophy.

Code of ethics

I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), as a practising Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, and abide by the code of ethics laid down by the UKCP.

Interests

I am particularly interested in working with women, especially mothers. I have a special interest in the relationship between spirituality and psychotherapy, and have run workshops on Women and Spirituality. I am also very interested in the role that the menopause and ageing play in women's lives.
